Now let's discuss this simple task step by step: 

  1. Goto Customize under Appearance Tab.

2. Click on Site Identity on the Left hand side of the Sidebar.

The recommended size for the favicon image is at least 512 pixels in both width and height.  If Your Image is bigger than the Recommended image, then WordPress allows you to crop the image.
